Maryland Soft Shell Crab Dinner



A great collection featuring a Chesapeake Bay classic, this is everything you need to create a memorable coastal meal. Fully cleaned and flash frozen, these Maryland Soft Shell Crabs are ready for your favorite recipe. Accompanied by two classics, French Onion Soup and Sweet Corn Hush Puppies, you have lots of great options for an unforgettable meal. Finish with a delicious 8” Apple Pie, perhaps the best ending a meal can have. Serves 4.


8 - Maryland Soft Shell Crabs (about 3.5-4" in diameter): fully cleaned and flash frozen medium soft-shell crabs with a sweet taste and silky texture
1 - Sweet Corn Hush Puppies (1 lb.): savory hush puppies with a satisfying crunch and soft, slightly sweet interior featuring the goodness of sweet corn and a hint of onion
4 - French Onion Soup (10 oz. each): full of sweet onion and rich, savory broth, and then topped with croutons and oozing cheese
1 - Apple Pie (8”): mounds of juicy, sweet-tart apple slices wrapped in a crunchy, old-fashioned sugared crust that's been "artfully broken"

Maryland Soft Shell Crabs: These soft shell crabs arrive cleaned and frozen. If thawing crabs, thaw under refrigeration before cooking. DO NOT THAW OR COOK IN PACKAGE. Cut film to remove crabs.For each of the following, unwrap soft shell crabs then thaw thoroughly, preferably by leaving them covered, in the refrigerator.
Sautéing: Sprinkle soft crabs with salt and pepper. Coat crabs with flour (or substitute). Sauté crabs in a hot frying pan in a small amount of cooking oil or margarine until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
Suggested Recipe for Broiliing or Grilling: Marinade Ingredients:  Soft shell crabs, 1-1/2 cups white wine, 5-6 drops hot sauce, 2 garlic cloves (or 1/4 tsp garlic powder), 1/4 cup soy sauce, olive oil
Instructions: Mix all ingredients together except for the soft crabs. Add mixture to a baking dish. Add soft crabs, cover and marinate for 30 minutes. Place soft crabs on grill and cook until crabs turn red, approximately 7-10 minutes. Baste with marinade and turn often. To broil, follow the same procedures except broil instead of grill.
Suggested Recipe for Breading: Use a standard coating/breading or make your own by using half flour and half cornmeal, seasoned with garlic powder, black pepper, and a pinch of cayenne.

Sweet Corn Hush Puppies:
Bake: Pre-heat oven to 425°. Arrange frozen hushpuppies on baking sheet and place on center rack of the oven. Bake 14-16 minutes to desired color and crispness. For best results, turn hushpuppies halfway through. Let stand three minutes before serving.
Deep Fry: Thaw for 30 minutes. Deep fry at 350°F. for 2 1/2 minutes to desired color and crispness. Let stand three minutes before serving.
For Safety and Quality: Carefully follow thawing and cooking instructions. Internal temperature should reach 165°F. Refrigerate leftovers.

French Onion Soup: Keep frozen until ready to prepare. Remove all packaging. Ensure the product reaches a minimum internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Since individual appliances vary in temperature, these instructions serve as guidelines only. Let stand for 2 to 3 minutes before serving as the product is very hot.
Conventional Oven (Recommended Method): Preheat oven to 400°F. Place 1 soup, cheese on top, in an ovenproof bowl (300 mL bowl capacity). Heat for 40 minutes or until the cheese becomes golden brown.
Microwave Oven: When heated in the microwave, the cheese will become mixed in the soup. Place 1 soup, cheese on top, in a microwave-safe bowl (300 mL bowl capacity). Heat on HIGH for 3 minutes. Stir and heat for 2 more minutes.
Quicker Oven Method: Preheat oven to 400°F. Place soup, cheese on top, in a bowl suitable for both ovens (300 mL bowl capacity). Heat 1 soup for 3 minutes on HIGH in the microwave oven (1000W). Remove soup from microwave oven; sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of additional shredded Swiss or other firm cheese over top of soup (not included). Heat for 20 minutes in preheated oven or until the cheese becomes golden brown.

Apple Pie: Keep frozen until ready to prepare.
Preheat oven to 325°F. Place “Pie in a Bag” on a baking sheet and bake for approximately 50-60 minutes. Cooking times may vary. Please keep pie in the bag when baking. Do not let the bag touch the side of the oven or heating element. Do not remove bag until cooking is complete.
Slicing: Use an electric or serrated knife to slice to preserve the crunchy broken top crust.
